Synopsis

Moving to the perpetually rainy town of Forks, Washington, teenager Bella Swan finds her life upended when she falls deeply in love with an enigmatic classmate who harbors a dangerous secret: he is an immortal, 108-year-old vampire.

Our Review

Twilight is a tale of a forbidden love affair between a vampire and a human. What makes a vampire fall in love with a human, despite all the temptation of drinking human blood is interesting to watch. Moreover, despite being aware of the basic nature of vampires what makes the human girl to be engrossed in a vampire’s love is what will want you to fall in love with a vampire too! Watch this movie if you wanna go to a fantasy land and feel the forbidden love which comes with its own price.

Twilight is a sweet and mellow love story, which can take you to the world of fantasy. However, the depth in the character is missing and it is not a true vampire movie if you are looking for that vampire action flick found across other classic reviews on MovieToWatch.

Plot

Bella (Kristen Stewart) is the new girl in the town and the new attraction in the high school as well. Even though guys are willing to be-friend her and take her to the most awaited prom night, she is disinterested in them and is very magically attracted towards a bright eyed guy Edward (Robert Pattinson) of the same school.

Edward, despite the numerous attempts of avoiding Bella, fails to not get equally attracted towards her. Gradually, they start spending time with each other and only later does Bella find out that Edward is not an ordinary guy; he is equipped with immense power and is just not human-like. Edward belongs to the Cullen clan, where people do not drink human blood and they consider themselves to be vegetarian Vampires and drink only animal blood.

Their blossoming romance is suddenly threatened when a nomadic coven of predatory, human-drinking vampires arrives in Forks. The ruthless tracker James catches Bella’s scent and begins an obsessive, lethal cross-country hunt to claim her life, forcing the Cullen family to mobilize and protect her at all costs.

Ending Explained

⚠️ Spoiler Warning: This section discusses the ending and major plot details.

James lures Bella into her old Arizona ballet studio using an audio recording of her mother, where he brutally breaks Bella’s leg and sinks his venomous fangs into her wrist. Edward and the Cullen family arrive just in time, with Alice, Jasper, and Emmett tearing James apart and burning his remains in the fireplace.

As the venom begins spreading through Bella’s bloodstream, threatening to turn her into an undead creature, Edward makes the agonizing decision to suck the venom out of her wound himself. Struggling against his overwhelming bloodlust, he manages to stop just before draining her life, saving her humanity. Weeks later, Bella and Edward attend their high school prom together. Bella begs Edward to bite and transform her so they can remain together for eternity, but Edward firmly refuses, kissing her neck while promising only to stay by her side as long as she lives. Watching menacingly through the ballroom window from the shadows is Victoria, plotting vengeance for James’s death.

What We Think About This Movie

What We Liked

Catherine Hardwicke's tactile, atmospheric direction, capturing the perpetual rain, mossy woods, and cool blue hues of the Pacific Northwest.
Incredible cult-favorite soundtrack featuring Carter Burwell's "Bella's Lullaby" alongside tracks by Radiohead, Muse, and Paramore.
The undeniable, angsty chemistry between Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson that turned them into global icons.
Billy Burke's grounded, charming, and understated performance as Bella's well-meaning father, Charlie Swan.

What We Didn't Like

Melodramatic dialogue and moments of unintentional comedy that feel dated outside of late-2000s teen culture.
Modest budget constraints result in noticeable CGI during the high-speed tree-jumping and glittering sequences.

Who Should Watch

Fans of moody supernatural romances, late-2000s young-adult nostalgia, slow-burn high school melodramas, and indie-rock-scored cinema.

Who Should Skip

Viewers looking for terrifying creatures of the night, intense bloodletting, or traditional gothic horror.
