The love and passion of Mae and Caleb are very well depicted in this movie.

Watch this saga of romance and horror, filled with suspense!

Plot

The film opens with a stunning scene and it is about a cowboy named Caleb (Adrian Pasdar) who meets a sexy girl Mae (Jenny Wright). They get attracted to each other and it is like a love at first sight when their eyes meet. Caleb does not know that the girl is not a human but a killer vampire.

Before parting, he asks for a kiss and instead of kissing, Mae thrusts her sharp teeth into Caleb’s soft neck and sucks the blood and runs away. Caleb gets confused as he does not know what was happening unless the sun sets and the body of Caleb welcomes the dusk.

Caleb’s truck does not start and he is taken by the family of Mae and spends the whole day sleeping with her ‘vampire’ family without understanding or realizing. The same day, he strives hard to get back to the town, but he cannot for some reason and he starts to feel sick. He later realizes that he is becoming vampire.

Ending Explained

⚠️ Spoiler Warning: This section discusses the ending and major plot details.

Caleb escapes the nomadic pack with the help of his father and young sister, refusing to kill innocent humans to feed his bloodlust. In a desperate bid to save his son, Caleb’s father performs a complete human blood transfusion, successfully reversing Caleb’s vampirism and restoring his mortality.

When the vengeful vampire clan tracks down Caleb’s family to reclaim him, an intense dawn shootout erupts. Severen, Jesse, and Diamondback are obliterated by sunlight and fiery explosions. Mae is rescued by Caleb just before succumbing to the lethal rays of the rising sun. Undergoing the same blood transfusion, Mae is cured of the curse, reuniting with Caleb under the daylight as mortal humans.

What We Think About This Movie

What We Liked

Brilliant subversion of gothic clichés—no fangs, no wooden stakes, and no crosses, just pure feral nomad survival.

Bill Paxton's electrifying, chaotic performance as the psychopathic vampire Severen, especially during the legendary bar massacre.

Kathryn Bigelow’s stylish, tactile direction combining gritty rural Americana with gorgeous twilight cinematography.

The moody, dreamlike electronic score composed by Tangerine Dream that gives the film a distinctive 1980s pulse.

What We Didn't Like

The third-act blood transfusion cure feels medically implausible and somewhat overly convenient.

Adrian Pasdar’s protagonist occasionally gets overshadowed by the sheer charisma of the villainous vampire nomad family.
