Synopsis
A secret government agency led by Amanda Waller recruits a task force of the most dangerous, incarcerated supervillains. Armed with heavy weapons and implanted with explosive collars, they are sent on a high-risk mission to defeat an enigmatic, unstoppable entity.
Plot
Following the death of Superman, ruthless intelligence officer Amanda Waller forms Task Force X, a team of dangerous criminals held at Belle Reve prison. The squad includes elite hitman Deadshot, former psychiatrist Harley Quinn, pyrokinetic ex-gangster El Diablo, opportunistic thief Captain Boomerang, genetic mutation Killer Croc, and specialized assassin Slipknot.
They are placed under the command of Colonel Rick Flag, with explosive nanite bombs implanted in their necks to ensure compliance. When Enchantress, an ancient witch possessing archaeologist June Moone (Flag’s girlfriend), goes rogue and attempts to destroy humanity using a mystical machine in Midway City, the Squad is sent in to extract a high-profile target (revealed to be Waller herself) and stop the threat.
Meanwhile, the Joker, Harley’s chaotic and devoted lover, orchestrates a violent rescue mission to free her from the government’s clutches.
Ending Explained
The Squad eventually confronts Enchantress and her superpowered brother Incubus at the subway station. El Diablo sacrifices himself to destroy Incubus in a fiery explosion. In the final showdown, Harley feigns loyalty to Enchantress to get close enough to cut out the witch’s heart. Deadshot then shoots the mystical explosive device, destroying the world-ending machine.
Flag crushes Enchantress’s heart, killing the witch and freeing June Moone from her curse. Waller, having survived the chaos, returns the remaining Squad members to Belle Reve, rewarding them with ten years off their sentences and minor privileges (like an espresso machine for Harley).
In the final moments of the film, the Joker breaks into the prison and successfully rescues Harley. In a mid-credits scene, Waller meets with Bruce Wayne, handing over government files on metahumans (the future Justice League) in exchange for his protection from the political fallout of the Midway City disaster.
