Synopsis
When eight-year-old Bonnie trades physical toys for an intuitive smart tablet called Lilypad, Jessie leads a courageous effort across town to rescue their playtime bond and rekindle real-world imagination.
Plot
Two years after saying goodbye to Woody, Bonnie turns eight and finds herself increasingly out of place among school peers who interact solely through social apps and smart devices. Seeking social acceptance, Bonnie sets aside her physical playthings and becomes attached to Lilypad, an adorable frog-themed interactive tablet equipped with artificial intelligence. While Lilypad seeks to make Bonnie popular, the advice backfires when classmates cyberbully Bonnie for still keeping old-fashioned toys, prompting a hurt Bonnie to banish Jessie, Buzz, Forky, and Rex into storage boxes.
Refusing to let Bonnie lose her sense of childhood wonder, Jessie resolves to find her a real-world friend who still plays with toys. Along the way, Jessie crosses paths with Woody and Bo Peep’s traveling lost-toy brigade, joining forces with Smarty Pants, an obsolete potty-training toy. Meanwhile, a container of next-generation Multi-Buzz Lightyear action figures washes ashore, attempting to find their way through the suburbs.
Ending Explained
Seeing Bonnie heartbroken after being ridiculed online, a guilt-ridden Lilypad realizes her digital suggestions caused harm. When a thrift donation van arrives, Lilypad throws herself inside the collection box to remove herself from Bonnie’s life. Jessie, Buzz, Woody, and the toy crew chase down the moving truck along the highway. Working together, Lilypad uses her wireless connectivity to update the firmware of the fifty Multi-Buzz units, unlocking their drone flight capabilities so they can airlift the toys and devices back toward the neighborhood safely.
Back home, the toys and devices orchestrate a real-life meeting between Bonnie and Blaze in the front yard. Discovering a shared passion for creative storytelling and handcrafted toys, the two girls immediately click, launching into an elaborate playtime session with Jessie, Bullseye, and Blaze’s horse figurines. Seeing Bonnie smiling and playing alongside a genuine friend in the afternoon sunlight, Woody and Bo Peep share a proud farewell embrace with Jessie and Buzz before continuing their mission to help lost toys, while Lilypad contentedly settles into a balanced role as a helpful tool rather than a replacement for imagination.
